A 25-year-old man shot and killed a 12-year-old girl, then turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide in Southaven Sunday, officials said.
DeSoto County Coroner Jeff Pounders identified the killer as Travis Carnez, 25, and his victim as Nathadia Hernandez, 12.
Shortly before 5 p.m., police responded to a shooting call after someone reported that a man crashed his vehicle into a another car in the 2200 block of Cedar Point Cove, jumped out and went into the home. They then heard gunshots from the home.
"He was the ex-boyfriend of the mother. They had restraining orders on him," Pounders said. "The mother was in the back of the house, and he busted in. He came through the window. The two girls were in the front of the house. She had several gunshot wounds and he had one."
