Father kills 2 children then self in murder-suicide
The Hennepin County medical examiner has ruled that the deaths of three people in south Minneapolis several weeks ago were a murder-suicide.
Luis Eduardo Ronquillo Alvarado, 39, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The two children, Nahily Ronquillo, 10, and her brother Luis Ronquillo, 13, also died from gunshot wounds to the head, according to the medical examiner.
The Richfield school district released the names of the children and their mother, who was badly wounded in the shooting.
Nahily Ronquillo was a fifth-grader at Richfield Dual Language School. Her brother was in the eighth grade at Richfield Middle School, according to the district.
Their mother was identified as Maria Romero, formerly a Richfield school district employee.
Ronquillo Alvarado's relationship to the other victims hasn't been released.
The shootings occurred at 7:10 a.m. in an apartment in the 5400 block of 34th Av. S.in an area of the Wenonah neighborhood that's rarely visited by violent crime.
Neighbors described the man who lived in the apartment as a carpet layer who kept to himself. Records show that the 39-year-old owned a nearby flooring business. His Facebook page, which says he is native to Ecuador, features photos of a recent vacation with two children.
