Woman, 8-year-old daughter killed in murder-suicide
A man fatally shot a woman and her 8-year-old daughter who were visiting his home before killing himself Sunday afternoon in Prairieville, the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported.
Deputies were called to a home on Oak Trace Road in Prairieville around 1 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot, a release from the Sheriff's Office says. Inside, the deputies found the bodies of Lacey Leblanc, a 31-year-old Walker resident, and her 8-year-old daughter, the release says.
They were shot by Shawn Millet, 37, who then turned the gun on himself. Millet was taken to a hospital, where he later died, according to the release.
The Sheriff's Office said Millet and Leblanc — who met online about six month ago — and the girl were seen together on Millet's porch Saturday night. That was the last time anyone saw or heard from Leblanc.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Millet has a criminal history that includes charges of domestic abuse battery and cruelty to juveniles, and he had recently received treatment for mental illness.
