Two Children Dead in Tahoka, Mother Claims Murder-Suicide
LYNN COUNTY, Texas (KLBK/KAMC) - The Texas Department of Public Safety said Friday in a brief written statement, “The Texas Rangers are currently assisting the Lynn County Sheriff’s office in the death of two children. No one has been arrested and the investigation is on going.”
The mother of two Lubbock children told KLBK News and EverythingLubbock.com, “It was a murder suicide north of Tahoka late last night.”
Residents in Tahoka said it was at a roadside park.
The mother of the children is an employee of Covenant Health System which issued a statement.
It said, "Our family at Covenant Health is saddened by the heartbreaking situation involving the family of one of our own. Our thoughts and our prayers go out to them as well as our Covenant colleagues during this tragic time."
The mother of the children said, “It was a murder suicide north of Tahoka late last night. If you're going to run this story I would like something good to come of it: I would like you to add that donations to the Ronald McDonald house in the names of Garett and Avery Contreras are appreciated.”
DPS has not yet confirmed names or other details.
“There was a divorce pending,” said J. Phillip Hays, the attorney for the mom in the divorce case. “This is tragic for everyone involved, both family and friends, acquaintances, and people they work with. It’s been very hard on everybody.”
