A man shot and killed his 1-year-old daughter Friday then took his own life, but not before attempting to shoot his girlfriend, according to the Highland County Sheriff's Office.
Timothy Harewood, 35, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the yard of a Trenton Street home in Liberty Township just after 3 p.m., the sheriff's office stated in a press release. Deputies, along with Hillsboro police, had responded to the home for reports of a shooting.
Inside the home, investigators reported they found the child dead with a single gunshot wound.
Police were met by a woman at the scene. Officials said she was Harewood's girlfriend and is reportedly the child's mother. Witnesses told investigators that after Harewood shot the child, he confronted the woman in the yard, struck her in the face and tried to shoot her.
"Witnesses stated the gun misfired," the release said. "Timothy Harewood then turned the gun on himself and fired the fatal shot."
The identity of the woman and the child have not been released. The Highland County Sheriff's Office is continuing to the investigate the incident.
