TENNESSEE COLONY, TX – The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement in response to a mass shooting Saturday night at a campsite near Tennessee Colony,Texas, in which six people were killed

The shooting victims include Carl Johnson, 77, his adult daughter Hannah Johnson and her six-year-old son Kade Johnson, Hannah Johnson’s boyfriend Thomas Kemp, 46, his sons Nathan Kamp, 23, and Austin Kemp, 21. The suspect is not related to any of the victims and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office believes this is the largest homicide case in Anderson County history.
This incident is one of at least 140 mass shootings that have occurred in America since 2009. A previously released report from Everytown for Gun Safety provides a comprehensive analysis of incidents in which four or more people were murdered with a gun, a widely used definition of mass shootings from the FBI.
STATEMENT FROM ANNA KEHDE, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER OF THE TEXAS CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:
“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. This terrible tragedy serves as yet another reminder of the devastating toll of gun violence, which kills 88 Americans everyday and injures hundreds more. Horrific killings that shatter families and communities cannot continue to be commonplace in our society. As a member of the Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action, I call upon our elected officials to stand up for the safety of all Texans and do more to keep guns out of dangerous hands.”
