Staunton Police have identified the victim of the shooting as 19-year-old Jasmine C. Hayslett of Staunton. They found her dead in a car with an apparent gunshot wound. While police were responding, they heard a gunshot in a home in the 800 block of Cherry Hill Dr. That's when they found 19-year-old Zachary A. Ham of Staunton, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police responded to Cherry Hill Drive shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday night following a report of gunshots, based on scanner traffic.
When authorities arrived, they found Hayslett's body in a car, dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, police said.
While on the scene, officers heard a gunshot from a residence in the 800 block of Cherry Hill Drive. Additional officers responded and found Ham's body. Police said he was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Captain Leslie Mitchell of the Staunton Police Department said it "appears to be' a murder-suicide.
Both bodies have been sent to the medical examiner for autopsy.Tweet
