A young mother and her baby girl have been found dead at a home in Sydney's west after a suspected murder-suicide.

A horrified family member found the bodies of a 29-year-old mother and her 17-month-old baby at Fitzroy St, Campsie on Monday afternoon.

They were found hanged, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Police and emergency services rushed to the home and attempted to resuscitate the pair after the suspected murder-suicide. Neither could be saved.

The Sydney Morning Herald named the girl simply as Sienna.

Campsie Police Superintendent Michael McLean said the pair died from asphyxiation.

An ambulance rushed the child to St George Hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.

The Sydney Morning Herald cited Seven News as saying the baby girl was vision-impaired and her mother was her full-time carer.

Superintendent McLean said police officers drove the ambulance to hospital and assisted in treating the child, the Herald reported

'They are clearly devastated and traumatised by what occurred.'

When the husband and father of the pair attempted to enter the home, he was blocked by police and collapsed on the footpath, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Interviews had to be conducted and family notified before the pair were identified.

Emergency services received a 000 call around 2:30pm.

Distraught family members have arrived at the home.

A resident from nearby Thorncraft Pde said the street had been blocked off by police and about 10 police cars were parked in the area.
